Leadership Lesson I Learned from Osama Bin Laden

One determined and focused person willing to do what nobody else is doing can shake up the world (for good or evil).

Did you see the video of OBL watching himself on TV?  I don’t know about you, but a small part of me was surprised and strangely disappointed to see an old, gray, broke down Osama wrapped in a brown blanket in a raggedy room that looked like a college frat just had a party there.  That room is a far cry for the Dr. Evil global command center that I had envisioned.

That’s where the leadership lesson comes in…

Your living room or office would be a more functional global command center than the one we see Osama in. Your technology is more advanced, your television is bigger, your remote is better, your wires are better organized :-)

It’s hard to believe that “that man” caused so much hurt and pain.  He’s not buff.  He’s not fashionable.  He’s not remotely cool.  His operation was clearly underfunded.

But he did.

Some estimate that even 9/11, which sparked hundreds of billions of dollars in wars and so much death, was done on a shoestring budget.

And you and I, as broke down as we are, have to believe that we can go tit for tat with Osama by doing good in the world in places that people refuse to go in ways that most people refuse to do.

One of my favorite verses in the entire Bible is Acts 17:6.  In it, the establishment is irate and states that Paul, Silas, Jason, and others are “SHAKING UP THE WORLD”!  Literally, that’s the phrase they use.

I love that verse so much because we know that these early believers weren’t outspending the establishment, they were just saying and doing what the establishment would never do.  I want to encourage YOU (just as you are right now) to begin seeing yourself as the potential change agent that you are.  I believe in you and I believe in God in you.  Let’s shake up the world…for GOOD!
