Buncha Stuff Sunday

  • This was a BIG weekend for our church plant and I feel very, very good about our growing momentum as we move closer to our Grand Opening on January 11th, 2009.
  • We collected hundreds and hundreds of information slips from people yesterday and want to move quickly to put them into a database so that we can follow up with all of them.  Wanna help?
  • As you may know, I have had a series of serious spinal surgeries and injuries across the years and have some physical limitations because of it.
  • The heavy lifting and standing on concrete for 10+ hours has me REALLY sore today.
  • I have the energy and zeal of a 29 year old man, but am in the precarious position of hurting myself when I act like it.  This battle is harder than you know.
  • I am about to pack up and go to a 5 year old birthday party with the family.  One of the ways our family stays so close in spite of being so doggone swamped is doing things like this together.
  • The busier and more consumed I have gotten with The Courageous Church, the less interested I have become in watching television at all.  My wife and I are normally crazy for Amazing Race and Survivor and I have been a HUGE Heroes fan for years, but I have been totally uninterested in all of them.
  • I still find time for The Shield & The Ultimate Fighter though (and am sure I will find time for Jack Bauer next month).
  • My family has been attending Buckhead Church for nearly 6 months and we still love it like we did when we first started attending.  Our time there has been such a blessing!
  • I have been inviting our launch team to attend the services with us on Sunday morning and they love it just like we do.  It's a different vibe/style for most of them (and for my family too), but so much stuff is right about Buckhead Church that transcends style.
  • We are going to model at least 10 things from the Buckhead Church Sunday service that I can think of right off the top of my head.  I'll blog about those things soon.
  • The list of what we'll do differently is small, but significant.
  • Jeff Henderson closed on his series on Solomon this morning.
  • If you didn't know it already, Jeff Henderson is one of the best preachers in the city.
  • I sat next to the Creative Arts Director of The Courageous Church in service today and I think we were the loudest two people saying "AMEN" to Jeff of the 3,000 folk there.  We can't help it!
  • You can take the pastor out of the Pentecostal church, but you can't take the Pentecostal church out of the pastor!
  • The music that opened the service had a very folksy feel to it.  It was just a woman singing, a man with an acoustic guitar singing, and a dude with a single snare and an African-style drum on the stage.
  • The lesson that I learned from the worship set was that a church can drastically change its style from week to week and the people will go with it if the quality and sincerity remains.
  • I have to close this out in a hurry – gotta get ready for the party…
  • Oh yeah, I meant to say this – I am so surprised by all of the people that tell me they read my blog.  Why am I surprised?  Because you never make a comment.  You're not an official reader until you make at least one comment.  Come on out of the shadows and make a comment on a post!

Hi Shaun,
I read your blog. If I’m ever coming through Atlanta on a Sunday (unlikely since I have my own church) I’ll be sure to check out The Courageous Church.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on ministry to young adults who tend to have pretty messed up schedules

What’s up Shaun! Just responding to your call-out, I found your blog a few weeks back and appreciate what you are sharing. I’m excited for the launch of The Courageous Church in ATL!
I hope you have noticed that my Panthers are at the top of the division, btw. So sorry for the Atlanta loss today…
