I am choosing to cheat today. I had a very important meeting with Gary Lamb and the Revolution Church staff to attend this morning, but family responsibilities were too important to pass up and Gary was more than understanding – he encouraged me to stay home.
Almost five years ago I read Andy Stanley’s great, short book "Choosing to Cheat" and I’ve shared the primary principle from the book with dozens and dozens of people because I use this principle doggone near every day. You owe it to yourself to spend $10 to get it because the lessons you will learn will more than compensate for the price of the book.
Here are my Cliff’s Notes for the book with 5 quick bullets:
- In life, something always (emphasis on always) gets cheated.
- The most cheated things are your family, your health, and your spiritual vitality.
- If you don’t choose the thing that gets cheated, something will still be chosen by default and it will rarely be your job/career and will usually be your family.
- You need to determine what areas of your life mean the most to you.
- Immediately begin finding ethical, but often challenging ways to cheat (save time/cut back) in the areas of your life that mean less to you so that you can honor what means the most.
